Kohima, Aug. 28 (EMN): New Market FC and Khriekesa FC won their respective quarterfinal matches and entered the semi-finals of the ongoing 2nd KTC Cup played here at the Kohima local ground on Tuesday.
New Market will now take on Khriekesa in the semi-final match on Wednesday. Sechu Zubza FC will clash against Twenty XI Viswema in the other semi-final match.
In the first quarter-final match, Rhitsho Mero scored two goals as New Market FC beat United 16 FC 2-1. Rhitsho Mero scored the first goal in the 23rd minute and went on to score his second goal from a spot kick conversion in the 80th minute for a handball inside the area.
Vareiyang scored the only goal in the 31st minute for United 16 FC.
Yhanshalo rescue Vanguard
Yhanshalo Kemp came to rescue for Vanguard FC as he scored a hat-trick to help the team beat last year champions Khriekesa FC 3-2 in the last quarterfinal match.
The first half saw a goalless draw with both teams failing to find the back of the net. Khriekesa were unlucky not to have scored as they hit the crossbar twice.
In the second half, Yhanshalo headed home a long cross from Sinlo in the 65th minute to take the lead for Vanguard team. But Khriekesa found the equaliser through Akuo-u Ciesotsu (5) in the 87th minute as he headed the much needed goal.
In the extra minute added time, Vimelie Chasie scored within the introduction of the game to give the lead for Khriekesa FC.
Yhunshalo Kemp then scored from defensive lapses in the 116th min to equalise the score. While headed home the winning goal in the last minute to push their team into the semi-finals of the tournament.
