KSUM crowned MDFA Trophy 2024 champions
MOKOKCHUNG — In the showdown at the Imkongmeren Sports Complex on Wednesday, the Konyak Students’ Union Mokokchung (KSUM) clinched victory against the three-time MDFA champions Telongjem FC with a narrow 1-0 scoreline, emerging as the MDFA Trophy 2024 champions.
KSUM’s Angki Konyak scored the decisive goal within the first 13 minutes, and despite dominating possession, Telongjem struggled to break through the resilient KSUM defence.
Shurhosul Zhotso nearly found an equaliser midway through the first half, but his well-placed shot rebounded off the goalpost, narrowly missing the mark. Telongjem’s luck did not improve in the second half, as Menguzelie Rutsa’s attempt for an equaliser hit the post.
KSUM received three yellow cards, with cautions handed to L Ating Konyak, Pangteih Konyak, and Naohan Konyak. One of the cards was issued to a player from the substitution bench.
The victorious KSUM team was awarded INR 2 lakh, along with a trophy and certificate, sponsored by the SBI Regional Business Office, Mokokchung. Telongjem received INR 1 lakh and the prestigious MDFA Late Nokzar Ao Runners-Up Trophy, a tribute sponsored by Assam Rifles, Mokokchung, in memory of the late Nokzar Ao.
In addition to that, outstanding individual players were also awarded: best goalkeeper: Nungsangyanger (Super Seniors FC), best defender: Temsuyanger (Zonipang FC), highest goal scorer: Japeth Kath (Telongjem FC), most promising player: Merangtemjen (Moanungsang Memorial Sporting Club), and player of the tournament: Menguzelie Rutsa (Telongjem).
The final was attended by Tsuknungtemsu Lemtur, founder and CEO of Tribpix, who served as the chief guest.
