Dimapur: The Konyak Students’ Union (KSU) has served a 15-day ultimatum urging the state government to provide concrete assurance in regard to non-functioning of Model Science College and construction of new high school building at Wakching.

The ultimatum addressed to the Chief Minister was submitted through the Deputy Commissioner, Mon, on Thursday.

The union in the ultimatum informed that KSU had earlier submitted a representation to the Minister of Higher Education and Principal Director, School Education, regarding the Model Science College, Wakching, and reconstruction of Government High School, Wakching, respectively on April 9, 2022.

In the representation, KSU said it had highlighted that Model College remained non-functional even after five years of its inauguration on February 3, 2019.

Additionally, the Government High School, which was constructed in 1974, had been abandoned ever since without any renovation, it stated.

The union alleged that the “deliberate negligence” by the Government resulted in the depletion of entire infrastructure, which was also reported by the local media recently.

And despite repeated appeals, KSU said the Government has turned “deaf and blind,” thereby putting the future of the students at stake.

“At this point, the union is under the apprehension that any form of development in the district is nothing more than a petty appeasement policy towards the deprived community,” the ultimatum read.

The students’ body cautioned that in the event of the government failing to provide “concrete assurance” within the stipulated deadline, the government shall be held solely responsible for any untoward incident that may arise.
