DIMAPUR — The English department of Kohima Science College Jotsoma (KSCJ), in collaboration with the Indian Red Cross Society Nagaland state branch (IRCSN), organised a one-day orientation and training session on first aid for semester 1 students on Saturday at the college conference hall.

An update from IRCSN stated that the orientation and training was part of the skill enhancement course (SEC) under the four-year undergraduate programme (FYUGP) of NEP 2020.

The special guest and general secretary of IRCSN, Akhale V Khamo, gave a concise history of the Red Cross movement, explaining its founding by Henry Dunant, its core humanitarian principles and the key initiatives of the Nagaland state branch including disaster relief and community service.

She also highlighted the critical importance of first aid skills for everyday emergencies and encouraged active participation in blood donation drives to save lives.

The program commenced with an introductory session chaired by Dr. Seyiekhrielie Whiso, associate professor and head of English department.

In her welcome address, Moasangla, vice principal of Kohima Science College, expressed gratitude to the IRCSN for collaborating on the essential training initiative. She reiterated the importance of first aid training in equipping students with practical skills that go beyond the classroom.

Kholie Dolf, managing committee member of IRCSN and master trainer, led the students in a hands-on training session on first aid techniques.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mungyani Yanthan, class representative of semester 1. She expressed her appreciation to the resource persons and the department of English for organising the insightful and practical training.

The report stated that the training was an essential part of the skill enhancement course, aligning with the goals of NEP 2020 to provide holistic education and equip students with life-saving skills.
