Dimapur, Dec. 27 (EMN): Minister of Planning and Coordination, Land Revenue and Parliamentary Affairs, Neiba Kronu, called upon the people of Kami village under Pfutsero division in Phek district to preserve their culture and tradition and pass it on to the future generations

Kronu stated this during the ‘Kami Nöhlhi Mehpö Tychü’ held in Kami village on December 22 and 23 as the special guest. ‘Kami Nöhlhi Mehpö Tychü’ is an annual event where all residents of the village come together and take part in various community activities, stated a DIPR report.

Addressing the gathering on the first day, Kronu shared his experiences growing up in Kami village and expressed his happiness for organising the programme so that people could come together and know their roots and heritage. He expressed hope that more such programmes would be organised in the near future in a grandeur manner. He also asked the gathering to preserve their culture and tradition and pass it on to the future generations.

Besides, the minister encouraged the gathering to maintain cleanliness and hygiene and be a model for others. He also called upon the people to celebrate the festive season in a meaningful way and assured of his continued support for the welfare of the community.

Kronu also inaugurated Kyetsa– a village gate– and unveiled a monolith commemorating the occasion in his native village.

On the second day, the village community observed ‘Rünie Rahzhe,’ which is a practice observed during ‘Rünie’ (paddy festival) where all abled-citizens of the village come together and carry firewood.

It mentioned that in this age-old practice, the men cut down trees and make loads of firewood for the women to carry back to the village. In order to keep this tradition alive, it was organised where the community took part by wearing their traditional attires.

Report further stated that Kronu also inaugurated a multi-purpose hall in Kami village on December 23.
