DIPHU — Mahamaya branch committee of Karbi Rong Asar Amei (KRAA) has expressed dissatisfaction over the formation of Village Development Council (VDC) by the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) authority under its jurisdiction.
Addressing media persons today at Dongmukak, about 82 km from Diphu town, president of KRAA Mahamaya Branch Committee, Birensing Engti claimed that the authority of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) is going to implement VDC within its jurisdiction. He argued that VDC should not be set-up in the Sixth Scheduled districts but instead set up the Traditional Village Development Council (TVDC) for the protection of the indigenous tribes’ cultural, social and religious heritage according to the Sixth Schedule of the Indian constitution.
He urged the KAAC authority to set-up TVDC in place of VDC. Regarding the formation of TVDC, the KRAA has already reached the matter to the Chief Executive Member (CEM), KAAC, Tuliram Ronghang, informed Engti.
Meanwhile, Engti also mentioned that the drafting committee for the formation of TVDC has already formed and it is in the process of completion.
The general secretary of KRAA, Robinson Rongpi, and other members were also present.
