Dimapur, April 15 (EMN): The Konyak community has resolved through a referendum to temporary refrain from paying any tax to any Naga political groups (NPGs) till all the factions unite “a unified Naga solution”.

A statement from Konyak Union (KU) said that it was decided at an emergency meeting with all stakeholders and civil society organisations on April 13 and the 14th at KU Conference Hall, to declare a “historic affirmation” — “No Unity No Taxation” — in view of the plight, untold sufferings and harassment inflicted upon the people through multiple taxation by numerous NPGs.

While re-affirming its political slogan “Unity first”, the House further directed ‘all the village councils and KU Branches to strongly adhere to the Konyak Referendum until further affirmation’.

It also appealed to “all the NPGs to kindly recognise and understand the plight and sufferings of the common people and come together to a common conclusion with solidarity and in the spirit of forgiveness with a vision to pursue the general cause of the Nagas”.

The emergency meeting called by KU was attended by all village councils, Konyak Anghs, VDB Secretary, village guard, Goan Buras, KBBB (Church organisation), KNSK (women organisation), Konyak Students’ Union, Konyak former-parliamentarian, former MPs, Konyak Gazetted Officers’ Union, Konyak representative to ENPO, Konyak Village Council Union, Mon District VDB Association, Mon district Dobashi Association, 15 KU Unit Branch, representative from all the Naginimora town wards, Mon town wards, Tobu town wards, Tizit town wards, Aboi town wards, nine Konyak elected representatives, retired officers and intellectuals from the community.
