Dimapur, July 16 (EMN): The Konyak Union (KU) has appealed to the government of Nagaland to establish three more government colleges at Tizit, Aboi and Tobu, accommodate the ever-increasing number of college-going students in Mon district.

In a press release, the union said that being one of the most populated districts, Mon “should not always be treated as equals with the rest of the districts in the state”.

“Population ratio should always be taken into account while distributing developmental projects. It is high time that the Government of Nagaland understands this issue and take the matter seriously. The union cannot afford to see Mon district being left out as backward district even among the backward districts of the state,” read the press release.

Meanwhile, it thanked the Department of School Education (DoSE), Advisor for School Education KT Sukhalu, and Advisor for Department of Underdeveloped Areas (DUDA) Bongkhao Konyak for upgrading the Government High School (GHS), Tobu to Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS).

The union said that upgrading the school with urgency, at a time when many students were not able to get admissions due to lack of adequate educational institutions in the district, is commendable.

“The union is hopeful that the concern department will deploy adequate number of teaching staffs without delay for practical realisation of the newly upgraded school,” it stated.

The KU also expressed appreciation to Advisor of Horticulture and Border Affairs, Mhathung Yanthan and the department of Horticulture for setting up a Sub-Divisional Horticulture Office (SDHO) at Tobu.

It went on to express optimism that the facility will help the people of the area, especially the farmers who are solely dependent on farming for their livelihood.
