DIMAPUR — The Konyak Union Myanmar (KUM) has lauded the two warring groups — General Headquarters (GHQ) and Council Headquarters (CHQ) — within the Yung Aung-led NSCN(K) for listening to public appeal for peace and restrain.

Maintaining that the recent gunfights, though within the same group, has created a fear psychosis among the innocent people, the union urged the warring factions to continue to maintain peace.

In a press release, the KUM reminded that the past leaders had worked for the common Naga sovereignty and not for any community or particular region. It added that Naga leaders should not forget public service.

‘Being Naga national leader’s birthplace, we are very far from human standard with no communication, no education and no facility in our area,’ read the press release. Stating that people repose their trust on Naga leaders irrespective of factions, it said they should recall how they had struggled for the national cause and understand the burden of the people.

Maintaining that even Indian and Myanmar army had ceased operation in public places, as they feel “pity” for the people, the KUM asked why Naga national workers were trying to disturb the public.

While requesting on behalf of the eastern Konyak people to maintain peaceful atmosphere within the “government” and public places, the union said it will not support any side until the disagreement within the group is resolved and that the public should not be blamed it.

The KUM also requested the national workers to stay in their designated places and not with the public or in the village to avoid causing tension to the innocent civilians. It went on to say that their “ammunition” should not be used for fighting among the Nagas or firing in the village.
