Konyak Union mandates clearance certificates for visitors to Mon district
DIMAPUR — The Konyak Union (KU) announced mandatory procedures on Tuesday for tourists and visitors planning to visit Mon district to ensure their safety and security.
Effective immediately, all tourists and outside visitors to the Mon district must report to the KU office in Mon and obtain a clearance certificate before venturing into the district. They are also required to obtain a guide from the KU office in Mon, especially when travelling to remote and border villages.
“This measure is initiated for the security and safety of visitors, as well as to avoid any misgivings or wrong reports about the region. Any tourist or outside visitor found within the district without the necessary clearance certificate and guide will be questioned by KU authorities,” the union stated in a press release.
Furthermore, scholars, writers, and individuals engaged in research activities have been urged to obtain a clearance certificate from the KU office before undertaking any thesis, journal writing, videography, documentary production, or report related to the Mon district.
The KU also directed village authorities and councils to check and ensure that tourists or visitors from outside carry this clearance certificate from the KU office within their respective jurisdictions and immediately report defaulters.
This initiative is a proactive step in response to past incidents involving tourists and visitors, and it is aimed at fostering a safer and more secure environment for everyone, the union stated.
