DIMAPUR — The Konyak Union (KU) has condemned the brutal killing of NSCN (IM) Kilonser Khampei Opeihum Konyak by unidentified assailants at Tizit town on February 21, stating that such cold-blooded murder is detrimental to the peace and security of the people.

In a press statement issued on Saturday, the union stated that it “blatantly violates the Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organization (ENPO)’s ‘December 18, 2007 Tuensang Summit Resolution’, which unequivocally prohibits any form of bloodshed in the ENPO region”.

While calling upon those involved in the cowardly act, at a time when people are yearning for peace and prosperity, to provide reasons for the killing, it said ‘every life matters and no authority has the right to snatch someone’s life without justification’.

The patience of the people is wearing thin, said the union, adding that ‘any act of killing, regardless of the reason, is senseless and madness’.

It also expressed pain over the brazen act of killing without any regard for humanity and people’s desire peace and tranquillity.

“Konyak Union takes this incident as a blatant disregard for the existence and role of civil societies. The consequences of such act and repetition may be costly and irreparable when the people rise up and revolt,” read the statement.

While urging the law enforcement agencies to investigate into the incident and bring justice to the victim’s family at the earliest, the union also extended solidarity with the bereaved family and reiterated its commitment to upholding peace and harmony in the region.
