Konyak Students’ Union demands 14 Assistant Professors for Wangkhao Government College
Dimapur, June 18 (EMN): The Konyak Students’ Union (KSU) has expressed anguish over inadequate teaching faculty at Wangkhao Government College and demanded immediate deployment of at least 14 Assistant Professors before the resumption of this academic session.
In a representation to the Director of Higher Education, submitted through the Deputy Commissioner Mon on Friday, the student body stated that the college has only 26 Asst. Professors, out of which 14 are on contractual basis and the remaining 12 on regular basis.
Expressing dismay over the concerned authority not paying heed to the demands of the union and the college authorities, the KSU said hundreds of students are rejected every year due to the inability to create “section for new semester” resulting out of teaching staff shortage.
Therefore, it has demanded immediate enhancement of teaching staff — two each for English and Economics, three each for Education, Political Science and Sociology, and one for History — before this academic session in order to ensure smooth functioning of the college.
The student body also accused the School Education department of blatant misuse of power, saying that two teachers, namely, Imsuwati (PT) of Government Middle School (GMS) Yannu village and C Lemei Konyak (PT) of GMS Phuktong village were transferred without providing a reliever despite knowing that both the schools do not have adequate teachers.
While demanding immediate revocation of the transfer order on the two teachers, the union also stated it will not tolerate transfer of any teachers from Mon district without reliever.
