Alleged FCI rice seen in a private store in Mon town.

Dimapur — The Konyak Union (KU) Mon unit and Mon Area Students’ Union have initiated an enquiry into the finding of a huge quantity of rice meant for Public Distribution System (PDS) in a general store in Mon town.

A source told Eastern Mirror that it may take some days to complete the enquiry as ‘there could be more stores that are illegally storing rice meant for the public.’

However, no case has been filed in connection with the unearthing of PDS ration rice.

The civil bodies on Tuesday sealed Sangram General Store located at Techa Ward in Mon town over suspicion of illegally storing PDS rice from the Food Corporation of India (FCI) warehouse (godown), Mon.

It had claimed in a press release on Tuesday that rice amounting to more than 10 truckloads was found in the store during an inspection carried out by the civil bodies after receiving complaint from the public.

The store will remain sealed till the enquiry is completed, it was informed.
