Konyak and Lotha organisations hold joint meeting
Dimapur, April 22 (EMN): Several civil society organisations from the Konyak and Lotha communities had a joint meeting at Circuit House Hall Kohima on April 18 in connection with the unfortunate April 12 incident where a minor girl was assaulted by her employers.
The incident came to light when the members of Konyak Student’s Union Kohima (KSUK) learned that a 13-year-old girl, who was working as a domestic helper, was beaten up by her employer Rulanthung Ezung, a government servant under fishery department, and his wife.
The civil society organisations of the Konyak and Lotha communities that took part in the joint meeting are Konyak Union Kohima, Konyak Nyupuh Sheko Khong, Konyak Students’ Union Kohima, Lotha Hoho Kohima, and Lotha Eloe Ekhung Kohima.
The officials of Konyak Students’ Union Kohima and Konyak Nyupuh Sheko Khong Kohima, who visited the spot on learning about the incident, told the attendees of the joint meeting about the event in detail, informed a press release issued by KUK president Dr. W. Phola Konyak and general secretary Khongjah Konyak.
“The house discussed and shared the views and opinions, and have unanimously agreed upon not to take the unfortunate incident as community/tribal issue. Rather the house strongly condemned the crime perpetrated to the minor girl child by the duo,” read the statement.
“While acknowledging the appeal made by the Lotha Hoho Kohima to resolve the issue on humanitarian gesture, Konyak Union Kohima have also expressed their helplessness since the whole issue including the victim is out of the purview of KUK as the case has been taken up by the Court of Law and the authority concern (sic),” read the statement.
“However, Konyak Union Kohima have expressed that the Union would extend all possible cooperation wherever deemed necessary,” it added.
