Imphal, Feb. 8 (EMN): Ruling MLA Kongkham Robindro Singh has been elected as the new Deputy Speaker of the 11th Manipur State Legislative Assembly (MSLA) by defeating his rival Congress MLA Fajur Rahim during a voice vote in Imphal on Thur.
Robindro who is 30 years of age is the eldest son of Kongkham Manglem and is one of the youngest Deputy Speakers elected so far in the Manipur Assembly.
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren who is the leader of the house of 60 members and opposition leader O Ibobi Sibgh of the Congress Party welcomed the new Deputy Speaker.
In their separate statements in the house, both the leaders said that the newly elected Deputy Speaker will deliver the existing democratic norms in ruling the state assembly.
Robindro, a resident of Mayang Imphal Thana Awang Leikai in Manipur’s Imphal West district was elected for the first time in the 11th State assembly on BJP ticket in 2017 assembly elections. He defeated former Education Minister Kh Ratankumar by a margin of 3094 votes.
He hold a post graduate degree in Business Administration (Marketing) from Anglia Ruskin University in United Kingdom 2012.
Preshaw Shimray, a congress MLA from Chingai assembly constituency in Ukhrul district was the Deputy Speaker of the 10th Manipur State Legislative Assembly.
