Kohima youth prepare to fight disaster

TRAINING cum awareness campaign on disaster management for the youth member of 19 Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) Wards began today at Zonal Council Hall, Kohima. The training will be held for three days in phase-wise manner for all the Wards falling under Kohima town which is being organized by the Civil Defence and Home Guards.
Speaking as the chief guest on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner and Controller, Civil Defence, Kohima, W Honje Konyak, has appreciated the organizers for taking the initiative to train up the youth of all the 19 Wards. He said disaster is something that cannot be avoided adding we are not alarmed as yet because huge disaster has not come to us as it has in other parts of the world.
Stating that we have not experienced the trauma that others have undergone, he urged upon one and all to change the lackadaisal attitude and be trained in disaster management so that we are aware of the safety measures and not get confused when disaster strikes. He also called upon all to compulsorily train up all the leaders and youth of the colony for preparedness to face consequences of disaster. The DC also said that trained personnel should be ambassadors in convincing the public that trainings in disaster management is of utmost importance.
Deputy Controller of Civil Defense and District Commandant, Home Guards, Kohima, Mulai Lamniah, in his welcome address, said we are confronting disasters in our day to day life and we also have to deal with it individually. He said that preparedness for disasters has become the need of the hour. He also underlined the need to continually update ourselves in tackling emergencies.
Chairman of Bayavu Ward-2, Povotso Lohe, spoke on behalf of the participants. The inaugural session was chaired by Company Commander, Home Guards, Kohima, Temjenwati.
On February 25, the Phase-II of the training will continue with participants from Midlane, Hospital Colony, Officers Hill, PWD, Upper Chandmari, Lower Chandmari and Porterlane (Dzuvuru), while on February 26, the Phase-III of the training will be held with participants from AG Colony, Ministers Hill, Lerie, NST, Agri, Forest, Electrical, Paramedical (Merhulietsa) and PR Hill.
