Kohima win Senior Men’s Inter-District One Day Tournament

DIMAPUR — The cricket fields of Nagaland witnessed thrilling encounters in both the Senior Men’s Inter-District One Day Tournament 2024 and the Boy’s U-16 Inter-District Tournament 2024 on Tuesday.

At Nagaland Cricket Stadium, Kohima faced off against Mon in a high-stakes final showdown in which Kohima registered a 73-run victory over Mon, securing the championship title, according to an update.

Kohima, batting first, amassed a total of 192 runs for the loss of all wickets in 49.4 overs. Samuel Zaputou top-scored with a brilliant 51, while Khriesaviyuo Solo contributed a valuable 33 runs. For Mon, Swamwang Wangnao and Phaknyu Konyak were the pick of the bowlers, claiming 3 wickets each.

In response, Mon’s batting lineup faltered under the relentless Kohima attack, succumbing to a paltry 119 all out in 40.4 overs. Mdaltab Alam (27) and Renthungo Lotha (19) provided brief resistance, but Samuel Zaputou’s outstanding spell of 3/31 and Anga Shuya’s 2/12 proved too much for the opposition.

Samuel Zaputou’s all-round performance earned him the well-deserved Player of the Match award.

At the Sovima Cricket Ground, Niuland locked horns with Longleng. Longleng, batting first, were bundled out for a modest 99 runs in 17 overs, with Rajesh Das (33) and Mungkhum Phom (18) contributing the bulk of the runs. Vino G Zhimomi was the star bowler for Niuland, claiming 3 wickets for just 16 runs.

Niuland’s batters made light work of the target, reaching 100/4 in 14.5 overs to secure a comprehensive 6-wicket victory. Afzal Hussain’s unbeaten 67 and Inakato Zhimomi’s 13 laid the foundation for Niuland’s triumph, while Ranjen Kumar’s 4/13 was the pick of the bowling for Longleng.

Vino G Zhimomi was adjudged Player of the Match for his outstanding bowling performance.

Mokokchung, Kohima rout opponents in U-19 tournament

In an intense showdown at Imkonmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung, the home team dominated Zunheboto, securing victory by an innings and 70 runs in the Boy’s U-16 Inter-District Tournament 2024.

Zunheboto, winning the toss, opted to bat first but managed only 42 runs before losing all their wickets. Mokokchung capitalised, amassing 192 runs in the first inning before bowling out Zunheboto for 80 runs in the second inning.

At Jakhama Local Ground, Kohima showcased their dominance against Tseminyu, outplaying them by an innings and 118 runs.

Kohima restricted Tseminyu to 30 runs in their first inning before posting 184/6 and declaring. In the second inning, Tseminyu added just 36 runs before being bowled out, handing Kohima a convincing victory.
