KOHIMA, DECEMBER 21
Kohima’s traffic congestion continues to pose as a hurdle for emergency services to execute their tasks on time. In another classic example of this situation, a fire incident which broke out today in a household at Naga Bazaar colony in Kohima was reported at around 4.30 pm but by the time the fire tenders finally reached the spot, three households were already affected.
Most people prefer to swing their bats at firemen for any delay which sometimes even result in aggression and obstruction to the personnel in carrying out their duty. The problem is also amplified by the narrow roads inside the colonies where cars are parked randomly, even to the point that it becomes difficult for even a single line traffic flow.
Monday’s fire reportedly broke out from a thatched kitchen of a house belonging to a women society, which quickly spread and razed two more kitchens in the neighbourhood. Fortunately, no casualty was reported. Two fire tenders were pressed into action and the personnel and locals together managed to douse the fire. While the cause of the fire could not be ascertained, fire personnel are of the view that it broke out from a burning stove. It was informed that the occupants of the house managed to remove the gas cylinders from their kitchens which prevented further damage to property.
