Kohima trade body condemns death threat, urges to revoke it
DIMAPUR — The Kohima Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) on Sunday appealed to the NSCN/GPRN (Khango) to immediately revoke a death threat issued against one of its members, the proprietor of KKB Rülho.
Stating that the threat is appalling and deeply troubling for the business community, the organisation highlighted the significant financial contributions the business community has made to support Naga political groups for decades.
“However, instead of acknowledging the contributions, the business community has been made to bear the brunt of uncountable harassments, intimidations, physical assaults and death threats from the multitudes of the NPGs (Naga political groups) indulgence in forms of unabated taxations, periodical collections and day to day demands,” the KCCI said in a statement.
It went on to say that the trend of “squeezing monetary resources” from businesses, contractors, public servants, and citizens would be counterproductive in the long run, damaging both the Naga national movement and the social fabric of the community.
Urging all Naga political groups to refrain from such arbitrary actions that imperil the well-being of individuals and parties, it called on the NSCN/GPRN (Khango) group to revoke the death threat at the earliest.
Further, in solidarity with the Angami Youth Organisation (AYO), the KCCI pledged its full support for the public rally scheduled for 11 am on August 6 at the Old MLA Hostel Junction in Kohima.
The rally aims to oppose “unabated illegal taxations, harassment, intimidations and death threats to common people”, it said, while appealing to all members of the business community to participate in the demonstration and close their establishments during the event.
