DIMAPUR — Kohima Science College has once again established itself as one of the premier institutions of higher education in India by becoming the first government college from Nagaland to be selected under the Department of Biotechnology’s “STAR College Scheme.”
According to a DIPR report, the announcement was made on April 16, 2026.
The college initially submitted its proposal under the scheme in March 2025 and was subsequently shortlisted among 34 institutions across the country.
The coordinator, Dr. Vethselo Doulo, along with core committee member Along Longchari, presented the final proposal on March 10, 2026 at the DBT headquarters in New Delhi.

Under this scheme, eight departments of the college—Botany, Chemistry, Geography, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, and Zoology—will receive grants from the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India.
These funds will primarily be utilised to strengthen laboratory infrastructure, procure advanced scientific equipment and enhance capacity-building initiatives through workshops, seminars and training programmes for undergraduate students, faculty members and the wider community.
The scheme will also enable the college to expand its academic reach by promoting interdisciplinary learning, enhancing practical skills and encouraging research-oriented education at the undergraduate level.
“The college acknowledges the hard work of all past and present stakeholders in achieving this milestone and takes great pride in this historic accomplishment, which is expected to significantly elevate the quality of science education in the region.
“Kohima Science College reaffirms its continued commitment to fostering innovation and academic excellence, particularly in Nagaland,” the college stated.
