DIMAPUR — A three-day national workshop on “Introduction to SPSS interface and data handling practice” was organised by the Department of Statistics in collaboration with the IQAC, Kohima Science College, Jotsoma, from November 10 to the 12th.
The workshop, sponsored by the Department of Higher Education, Nagaland, aimed to equip participants with practical skills in data management and statistical analysis using SPSS software, according to a press release.
The inaugural programme on November 10 was attended by Dr. K Nishena Nekha, additional director, Directorate of Higher Education, Nagaland, as the invited guest. In her address, she spoke about the history and development of SPSS software, highlighting its growing importance for students and researchers in various disciplines.
Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Pallab Changkakoti, head of the Department of Statistics, Kohima Science College, Jotsoma, emphasised the need for developing a data-driven mindset and the role of SPSS in promoting evidence-based research and decision-making.

The Principal of Kohima Science College, Dr. Temjenwabang, remarked that SPSS is a crucial tool in today’s data-centric world and that organising this workshop had been a long-standing desire of the college, aimed at enhancing research competence and analytical skills among faculty and students.
A total of 47 participants, including teachers and research scholars, took part in the workshop.
The resource persons included Dr. Sulaxana Bharali from CKB Commerce College, Jorhat; Dr. Arnab Narayan Patowary from the Department of Fisheries Extension, Economics, and Statistics, Assam Agricultural University, Raha, Nagaon, Assam; and Dr. Karuna Gogoi from the Department of Community Medicine, NIMSR, Kohima.
