Kohima Science College excels in Techexpo 2016

Dimapur, September 10: A working prototype “Tea Leaves Cutting Machine” (TLCM) initiated by the students of Kohima Science College (autonomous), Jotsoma, was placed Top 5 at Techexpo IIT Guwahati. Techexpo is an annual Techno-management festival and is a platform, an event for all the young Indian students to showcase their projects, innovative products for bringing to light the technological advancement made by the youths of the country.
The Techexpo 2016 event was held at IIT Guwahati from September 1-4. Three students represented Kohima Science College with an innovative machine – “Tea Leave Cutting Machine” (TLCM). The machine (TLCM) was designed and mastermind by innovative idea of Zenwang Konyak, Kevisede Savino and Daniel Konyak of B.Sc 1st year. The TLCM mainly aimed and emphasised for efficient, less energy, easy locomotion, eco-friendly, cost effective and reliable techniques as compared to the traditional methods in tea industry.The judges comprised of different personalities from different fields and discipline which included Frederick J Raab, Head of LIGO Hanford Observatory; Dr. Amit Sethi, Department of Electronics and Electrical Engineering IIT Guwahati; Dr. Sachin Kumar, Department of Bioscience and Bioengineering IIT Guwahati; Dr. Senthilmurugan S, Department of Chemical Engineering IIT, Guwahati.
Kohima Science College under the Science Club secretary Khumeng T and advisor Dr. Chetan Kachhara, Department of Physics and the Students’ Union, have partially funded for the project.
The TLCM team was awarded with the certificates and a cash prize. The team from Kohima Science College was the only one from Nagaland to represent the State at the expo and their achievement has brought laurels not only to the college, but also to the State.
