Kohima, Sep. 13 (EMN): In what would help the daily commuters along the stretch from New Reserve to New Secretariat, the Kohima Police has proposed a city bus services.

‘We are proposing to start the city bus service from New Reserve to New Secretariat and accordingly, we have identified the bus stops. Currently, the city buses run from Lerie to High School Junction and we are proposing an extension,’ the deputy superintendent of police (Traffic), Manom Wallim, informed Eastern Mirror on Tuesday.

A team of Kohima police led by the DSP were seen putting up bus stop signage on one of the identified areas near Razhu Point on Tuesday.

He stated that an additional 4/5 bus stops to the existing ones have been identified from New Reserve to New Secretariat. The bus stops (dropping and pick-up only) are meant for all the buses including city buses, school/colleges, staff buses etc.

“We see that for most of the school kids, the school buses drop children in the middle of the road, which is quite dangerous. Keeping the safety of the school students in mind, we have identified various locations for bus stops,” the police officer added.

He further informed that the team would have a sitting with Regional Transport Authority authorities on two days, where the proposals would be laid down and discussed following which necessary approvals would be made for implementation.

The Kohima Police (traffic) has been conducting spot verification exercises for identification of no parking zone, one lane road as well as two lane road since last month. On this, he stated that identifying parking in and around Kohima town was almost completed.
