Kohima police makes several arrests

Kohima Police arrested four persons in the past three days in connection with several criminal activities being reported in and around Kohima.

The police updated in a social media post that one identified as Daniel Phom (22), a resident of Paira colony, Burma Camp in Dimapur was apprehended in connection with the burglary case at Ministers’ Hill Baptist Higher Secondary School (MHBHSS), Kohima on June 15.

It stated that INR 1, 52, 390 was recovered from the possession of the accused and a case has been registered at Kohima South Police Station for further investigation.

A police official told Eastern Mirror that they had shared the information of the accused as per his official name.

However, Yachem Bühü Pangthai Kohima issued a clarification on Wednesday that accused was neither a citizen of Yachem Village nor a bonafide citizen of Phom community. It stated that Yachem citizens and the Phom community “disowned the citizenship of the accused as Yachem and Phom”.

The Kohima Police also updated that personnel of Kohima North Police Station arrested one Akhlas (22), a resident of Kasaba Dhantala in West Bengal, from Dimapur Airport on June 14 after a doctor lodged a complaint about his personal documents and cash being stolen from his residence.

INR 2,71,700 and the stolen documents were recovered from the possession of the accused who was said to be working as a lab technician at the victim’s clinic.

“The accused was about to board a flight from Dimapur to Kolkata when he was arrested,” the police wrote, adding, “The arrest was effected within an hour of receiving the complaint”.

Meanwhile, two youths identified as Vetsüto Nakro (21) and Shevotso Getsa (21) from Phek district were apprehended by the police on June 14 for theft that took place on April 24 near District Home Guard Office, Upper Chandmari, Kohima.

Kohima South police station had registered a case against the two miscreants for snatching a purse from a woman.

‘The duo was arrested after thorough investigation and several attempts as they were absconding,” the Kohima Police updated.
