Dimapur, Jan. 30: An emergency meeting of Kohima-based tribe bodies was held at the APO conference hall on Monday to take stock of the impending danger arising out of the face-off between the state government and the tribe bodies.
According to a press release received here, the meeting was jointly convened by Angami Public Organization and Chakhesang Public Organization. “No tribe of Nagaland has said that ULB elections should not be held, rather the earnest request and appeal all along has been to give us adequate time to deliberate the Nagaland Municipal Act before implementing it.
“The meeting observed that the present impasse has reached a boiling point of a very serious situation. The meeting, therefore, strongly appeals the chief minister to use his wisdom and effect postponement of the scheduled election to save the situation.
“Despite this earnest request, if the government goes ahead with the elections, the consequences arriving out of this fall out shall be solely borne by the chief minister and his cabinet,” it informed.
