DIMAPUR — The Lerie Council, along with GBs, judiciary board, youth organisation and women organisation, has announced a series of regulations concerning public activities, shop operations and residency norms within Lerie colony in Kohima.
A press release on Thursday stated that the resolutions were adopted during a meeting held on November 24.
According to the council, parties and vehicle entry for entertainment purposes will not be permitted in public areas after 7 pm.
Surprise checks may be conducted, and violators will be fined INR 1,000, with the possibility of names being published in local newspapers, it warned.
The council further announced that all shops within the colony—including barber shops, medical stores and bakeries—must remain closed on Sundays.

Shops operating from shared living spaces have also been directed not to entertain customers on Sundays. A penalty of INR 5,000 will be imposed on violators from January 2026, the council informed.
As part of consumer safety measures, the youth organisation has been authorised to conduct checks for expired products and overcharging beyond MRP, and to take action as required.
Reiterating an earlier stance, the council stated that the ban on IMFL and other forms of liquor within Lerie colony remains in force, irrespective of any state-level relaxations. The women organisation will work with the council to monitor compliance.
The council also reaffirmed a previous resolution concerning the residency of labourers and business personnel, stating that both house owners and the individuals involved would be held responsible in case of violations.
It clarified that the resolution is “not intended to discriminate or humiliate any particular community,” but is aimed at maintaining peace and preventing a recurrence of past conflicts.
