Kohima leads in UDID card generation in Nagaland

DIMAPUR — A total of 3,171 Unique Disability Identity (UDID) cards have been generated in the state of Nagaland, according to the portal of the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, as of June 11, 2024.

At the same time, a total of 11,070,454 UDID cards have been generated in the country. The UDID sub-scheme is being implemented to create a national database for persons with disabilities across the country.

According to the 2011 census, there were 2.68 crore persons with disabilities, comprising the following categories: visual disability, hearing disability, speech impairment, locomotor disability, mental retardation, and mental illness.

As of June 11, 2024, the district-wise distribution of UDID cards generated in Nagaland is as follows: Kohima has the highest number with 889 cards, followed by Dimapur with 583, Mon with 544, Mokokchung with 489, Wokha with 242, Phek with 180, Kiphire with 76, Zunheboto with 64, Tuensang with 62, Tseminyu with 17, Peren with 15, Longleng with 7, Chümoukedima with 2, and Noklak with 1 card.

Under it, certificates of disability and UDID cards are issued to persons with disabilities through competent medical authorities notified by the respective state governments or union territories.

It aims to encourage transparency and efficiency in the system of delivering government benefits to persons with disabilities.
