Kohima, July 31 (EMN): The Kohima district tasks force (DTF) has extended the total lockdown in Kohima municipal areas till August 7.

The chairman of Kohima DTF and deputy commissioner, Gregory Thejawelie, issued an order announcing the extension of the total lockdown period following an emergency meeting held on Friday.

“This extension of the complete lockdown measures by the DTF Kohima is necessitated after taking into consideration and deliberating on the recent surge in the rapid Covid-19 positive cases in the district outside quarantine centres,” read the order.

It has also entrusted the respective ward/ colony/village panchayats to alleviate the shortage of essential commodities among residents by identifying certain shops and accommodate the request of the citizens by systematically adhering to social distancing norms.

It informed that the contact persons of the various localities (wards/colony/panchayat) and the online delivery of essential commodities would be identified and notified by the Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) separately.

Further, it advised the public to follow all safety precautions; and warned that violators will be penalised as per law.

Total lockdown if SOPs violated’

Meanwhile, Dimapur district administration has decided to impose partial lockdown in the city from August 3. Currently, it has clamped a total lockdown till August 2.

The Dimapur district task force, headed by deputy commissioner, held a meeting on Friday and decided to revert to partial lockdown from August 3, according to a DIPR report.

The task force decided to ensure strict implementation of the standard operating procedure “and if public do not adhere to the guidelines, total lockdown would be imposed again”, it stated.

The meeting decided that only those shops selling essential items and vegetable would be allowed to open from 9 am to 2 pm; while wholesale market would be allowed to open from 5 am to 9 am.

Any shop caught violating the SOPs would be penalised and will be closed down, the task force decided.

Odd-even system of vehicular movement would continue to be enforced while movement of public would be restricted, except for those coming out for availing essential commodities. Pharmacies would be allowed to open as usual.

The meeting also suggested that plastic sheets should be placed in the shops wherever possible as a protective measure between the shopkeeper and the customers; and mandatory wearing of masks besides following hand hygiene and social distancing measures.

Civil societies including Naga Council Dimapur and Western Sumi Hoho (WSH) sought for installation of BSL-3 lab at ‘Dimapur Hospital’, and urged the district task force to write to the state government on the same.

The WSH also suggested for early installation of the dialysis machine it had donated.
