Dimapur, Sep. 16 (EMN): The Kohima District Task Force (DTF) had a meeting in the office chamber of Deputy Commissioner Kohima on September 16 to work out the strategies and also review the action plan undertaken for the implementation of plastic ban at district headquarters and sub-divisional levels.
A statement from DPRO Kohima informed that the “district administration officers shared their programme on awareness of plastic-free environment to be conducted in their respective jurisdiction, which includes villages, churches, colleges and schools within this month prior to the enforcement of plastic ban” in the Kohima district on October 1.
Chaired by deputy commissioner of Kohima and chairman of DTF, Gregory Thejawelie, the officers deliberated on the “items to be banned initially and decided to concentrate on the items causing maximum pollution in the present scenario, which includes all plastic carry bags with or without handles, irrespective of thickness and size; all plastic cutleries including plates, cups, straw, stirrers etc. and all cutleries and other decorative items made of Styrofoam (thermocol).”
The update went on to say that modalities on how to be vigilant and monitor the use of single-use plastic in the district were discussed at the meeting.
