DIMAPUR — The District Level Coordination Committee (DLCC) of the District Tobacco Control Cell (DTCC), Kohima, held its quarterly meeting on Monday at the conference hall of the deputy commissioner (DC) in Kohima.
The meeting was chaired by DC Kohima and DLCC chairman Kumar Ramnikant, according to a DIPR report.
The committee focused on reinforcing the ban on the sale of tobacco products within a 300-foot radius of educational institutions. It was decided that first-time offenders will face fines, while repeated offences will result in both fines and the sealing of shops.
Persistent offenders will face fines and the cancellation of their licences. The committee also agreed to increase shop inspections to ensure compliance.
Ramnikant commended the DTCC Kohima for effectively conducting focus group discussions and information, education, and communication (IEC) activities in various institutions across Kohima, despite limited funding.
He also proposed the initiation of tobacco-free wards, colonies, and villages, in addition to the existing tobacco-free school and home initiatives.
During the programme, Dr. I Simon Sumi, District Nodal Officer of DTCC Kohima, declared Government High School New Market, Government High School Forest Colony, and Government Middle School Naga Bazaar as tobacco-free schools.
