DIMAPUR — In a run-up to ‘World No Tobacco Day,’ the Kohima district tobacco control cell (DTCC) organised an essay writing competition on May 24 among the tobacco-free schools at the School of Nursing of Naga Hospital Authority on the theme “We need food not tobacco.”

An update from the office of the chief medical officer (CMO), Kohima, stated that 12 students from different schools participated in the competition where certificate of participation were given to all the students.

It informed that prizes to the winners would be given on ‘World No Tobacco Day’ programme on May 31.

Meanwhile, in continuation with celebrating Amrit Utsav 100 cities: 100 events, Kohima Smart City Development Limited organised an awareness campaign on tobacco and its harmful impacts on Thursday.

The programme was initiated in commemoration of ‘World No Tobacco Day’ scheduled on May 31 with Dr. Arenla Walling, state nodal officer of National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP) as the resource person. The session was chaired by Mhaphruonuo Theunuo.

In her speech, Dr. Arenla Walling, enlightened the gathering on the latest data of tobacco consumption in Nagaland and the diseases associated with it. She also encouraged the Smart City authority to implement strict compliance of COTPA section 4, 6 and 7.

To mark the significance of the occasion, all members present took the anti-tobacco pledge to promote healthy living.
