Kohima DLSA and Tseminyu administration observe Janjatiya Gaurav Divas with legal awareness drives, Aadhaar registration and child welfare sessions.

DIMAPUR — The Kohima District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), in collaboration with the district administration of Tseminyu, organised Janjatiya Gaurav Divas (Tribal Pride Day), Children's Day, the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) SAATHi and the SAMVAD Campaign 2025, registration of ration cards, job cards, Aadhaar cards and workshops on November 15.
According to an update, delivering the welcome speech, Deputy Commissioner Japheth Woch gave a brief introduction on Janjatiya Gaurav Divas, and he urged all to promise to respect tribal communities, support its development, and ensure that every child, whether from a village or town, gets an equal opportunity to grow.
Cheliam Khiamniungan, chief judicial magistrate and secretary, Kohima DLSA, highlighted child rights and matters relating to child rights, child welfare and protection of the best interest of the child, focusing on cases related to children in conflict with law in Tseminyu district. She further reminded the beneficiaries of their responsibility towards child welfare and protection.
Mezivolu T Therieh, principal district and sessions judge and chairperson, Kohima DLSA, provided insights into the NALSA SAATHi and the SAMVAD, which mainly focus on the weaker and marginalised sections of society.

She further gave insights on the importance of Aadhaar, which falls under the NALSA SAATHi Scheme initiated nationwide by NALSA, which aims to form district-level units comprising key stakeholders who work for child rights.
Therieh highlighted the SAMVAD Scheme, which brings legal awareness directly to the community. It helps people understand the laws that protect them, ensures the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, and other protective laws are properly implemented, and teaches people how to claim benefits in education, jobs, and welfare schemes.
The event comprised a special Aadhaar drive along with other allied departments. DCPU Tseminyu conducted a training programme, free medical health camps, registeredration cards, and registered more than 30 job cards.
Panel lawyers and paralegal volunteers of the Kohima DLSA provided counselling, drafted free affidavits, distributed legal literature and assisted the beneficiaries. More than 330 benefited from the special Aadhaar drive.
