Bethel HSS, St Mary’s Cathedral HSS and Don Bosco HSS register win

Kohima, June 26 (EMN): Bethel Higher Secondary School (BHSS), St. Mary’s Cathedral HSS and Don Bosco HSS registered their first wins at the ongoing 2nd Kohima District Inter-School Football Tournament here at Khuochiezie Ground, Kohima.

Playing the first match of the second day of the tourney, BHSS trounced The Vineyard School (TVS) 5-2 to enter the pre-quarters. BHSS skipper H Lipong scored a hat-trick: he gave the lead in the 20th minute for his school, then quickly added a second in the 22nd minute and rounded up the hat-trick in the 36th minute. Piling up more pressure to TVS, Vikehielie scored the fourth and his first goal in 41st minute for Bethel.

Hovito of TVS scored in first half injury added time to restore some momentum, but Vikehielie returned to score the fifth goal for BHSS in the 50th minute to make the score line 5-1.

A young yet unflinching TVS made some imposing effort and found the net through captain Luntsuba in the 91st minute. However, the match ended in favour of BHSS.

In the second match, St. Mary’s Cathedral HSS (SMCHSS) narrowly edged passed GHS Rüsoma (GHSR) by a solitary goal and managed to book their pre-quarterfinal berth. The only goal was scored by Supong Yanger SMCHSS through a long range strike in 46th minute. GHSR’s Ruokuosa was shown a yellow card in the 34th minute for foul play during the match.

SMCHSS will now take on last year’s finalist Ministers’ Hill Baptist HSS in their pre-quarterfinal match.

In the third match of the day, Don Bosco HSS (DBHSS) beat TM GHSS via a tie-breaker after the match ended in 2-2 draw in the stipulated time. During the match, TM GHSS took an early lead through a goal from Kethovizo in the 15th minute. He doubled his tally in the 21st minute to make it 2-0 for TM team.

Don Bosco side despite two goals down fought on as they managed to score a goal in the 43rd minute through Mhasiletuo to make it 2-1. In the second half, Lamthio scored the much needed goal to equalise the score line in the 48 minute for Don Bosco.

The match ended in a draw as both team failed to seize the opportunities that came their way, making way for a penalty shootout. DBHSS beat TM side in the tie-breaker by 4-3.

With the win, DBHSS will lock horns with Bethel HSS in the pre-quarterfinals.
