Kohima district Inter-School Football Tournament underway

Kohima, June 27 (EMN): The third Kohima district Inter-School Football Tournament (KDISFT) 2019 got underway on June 27 at IG Stadium. Around 500 students from 32 schools in Kohima district will vie for the title. It is jointly organised by Royal Club Kohima, department of School Education and Youth Resources & Sports (YRS).
IPS K Kire, who graced the inaugural function as patron, encouraged the students to take up football as profession, describing it as a promising sport. Pointing out the importance of physically fitness as a sportsperson, he asked them to have their own practice sessions to excel.

Be ready to play when called for and not just participate in the tournament, he said. Having a good discipline will earn society’s respect, he added.

Vice President of Royal Club Kohima said during in the presidential address that the third edition had reached another milestone in the history of Nagaland. He was of the view that the KDISFT is becoming popular among the school children with the number of participating schools increasing from just 24 in its first edition.

With the support of governmental department—School Education and YRS, the tournament has made it into annual school programme. He said that he hopes to see Nagaland inter-district school football tournament in the future.

In the first match, St. Joseph HSS (Higher Secondary School), Viswema beat G Rio HSS, Kohima 2-1. The first goal of the tournament came from the boot of Novicho Natso from St. Joseph HSS just 15 minutes into the game.

G Rio HSS equalised the score through an own goal from St Joseph HSS at 35th minute. However, Meyiesa Kiso sealed the game for St Joseph HSS by scoring the winning goal at 39th minute.

In a pre-dominant match, Stella HSS, Kohima thrashed Baptist Mission School, Jotsoma by 6-0 in the second match of the day. Meribemo scored a hat-trick, scoring at 20th, 34th, and 55th minute. Yhunkenye, Tsüji, and Kevichüto scored a goal apiece for Stella HSS at 20th, 34th, and 55th minute respectively.
