Kohima District Inter-School Football Tournament: Roundup of first round

The Kohima District Football Referee Association (KDFRA) members who are conducting the game for the 3rd Kohima District Inter-School Football Tournament at the IG Stadium in Kohima.

Dimapur, July 7 (EMN): The preliminary round of the ongoing 3rd Kohima District Inter-School Football Tournament concluded on Thursday with a total of 66 goals scored in 16 matches with the goal percentage of 10.56 % per match.

According to an update received here on Sunday, the last match of the first round saw Christ King Higher Secondary School edging out the defending champions Loyola Higher Secondary School, at the IG Stadium in Kohima.

Meanwhile, eight hat-tricks have been already scored so far in the tournament with Meribemo of Stella Higher Secondary School becoming the first player to score a hat-trick.

Küvethi Swüro of Rüzhükhrie Government Higher Secondary School and Tepevil of St. Mary’s Cathedral Higher Secondary School are the leading scorers with five goals apiece.

Küvethi Swüro has scored five goals in two matches while Tepevil who is yet to play his second match have netted five goals in a single match.

Rüzhükhrie Government Higher Secondary School holds the record for setting the highest victory margin of 8-0 over a team in a goal fest match until now.

With Government Higher Secondary School, Tseminyu , Rüzhükhrie Government Higher Secondary School , Mt. Carmel Higher Secondary School and Ministers’ Hill Baptist Higher Secondary already qualified for the quarter-finals, 12 teams from both Pool-A and Pool-B are remaining to seal the six remaining spots in the last 8 .

The grand finale will take place on July 15 at the IG Stadium, where the champion team will walk home with a cahs prize of INR 70,000 while the runners-up will receive INR 50,000.

The two semi-finalists will receive INR 20,000 each while in addition; the best discipline team, best cheering school, and the player of the tournament will pocket INR 5,000 each.

The annual summer school tournament is jointly organised by the Royal Club Kohima in collaboration with the department of School Education and Youth Resources & Sports.

Today, four teams will be vying for the quarter-finals berth as Mt. Hermon Higher Secondary School takes on John Higher Secondary School in the first match at 1 pm, while Baptist High Kohima will clash with Dainty Buds School in the second match at 2:40 pm.
