Dimapur, June 11 (EMN):
Even as the state government has allowed religious places to be opened following relaxation given by the Government of India, the Diocese of Kohima has decided not to open religious places till further notice.

In an information, Bishop of Kohima, Rev. Dr. James Thoppil conveyed that “after having discussion we have decided to maintain the status quo (that is, not opening the religious places) until wider consultation is done and decision will be taken and information be given out.”

“Before we decide to open our churches for public worship, we need to make sure that we are able to adhere to the provisions and conditions stipulated about it. We also need to sensitise and train the people to observe the provisions of the law and that we have sufficient volunteers to help in carrying them out,” the Bishop informed.

He further appealed to keep to the status quo of not opening the religious places until further information.
