Kohima College holds voter awareness programme
DIMAPUR — The Electoral Literacy Club at Kohima College, Kohima (KCK), in collaboration with the Office of the Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer, Kohima, held a one-day voter awareness and sensitisation programme at the college’s conference hall on Wednesday to promote electoral literacy and engage first-time voters.
According to a DIPR report, the programme aimed to equip first-time voters with essential knowledge about the electoral process, their rights, responsibilities, and the significance of their participation in the democratic process.
With an interactive approach, the initiative sought to bridge the gap in electoral understanding among the youth, it said.
Speaking on the occasion, EAC Kohima and the nodal officer for SVEEP, Limakumla Pongener, applauded the collaborative effort and stressed the significance of such initiatives in fostering a culture of informed citizenship.
She emphasised the importance of youth participation in the electoral process, stating that empowering first-time voters with adequate knowledge and awareness is important in nurturing a vibrant democracy.
The event witnessed participation from students and faculty members alike. Associate professor Dr. Visiezolie Yashü chaired the programme. Principal KCK, Dr. Vitsosie Vüprü, delivered the welcome address, and campus ambassador Kikhosou Rume expressed words of gratitude.
