Kohima bus blast: Enraged civil society terms it ‘pure terrorism’

Enraged civil organization on Saturday came out united in expressing anger at the yet another bomb explosion in Kohima following what is believed to be an improvised explosive device that was planted in a public bus in the capital town on June 26.
A city bus was destroyed when an explosion ripped through its rear in Themezie of Kohima.
Civil organizations have called it an act of cowardice and terrorism and have called upon the slumbering state government to engage strong action to curb the antisocial that are out to destabilize the state and community.
Various community organizations issued separate press releases on Saturday expressing outrage at the explosion, which was reportedly in an area populated by civilians.An infuriated Angami Students’ Union issued a statement calling the criminal act ‘cheap”, and an act of ‘cowardice’ and “pure terrorism”.
“The Angami Students’ Union condemns the cowardice act and is angered at the low and cheap means adopted by the miscreants on June 26, Friday where unknown persons had planted bombs in a populated locality,” the students’ organization stated in its statement.
“The union states that it is a pure act of terrorism, putting the lives of innocent passerby in jeopardy and also an act to disrupt the peace and security of the citizens. Such act within our jurisdiction is unacceptable and intolerable,” the youth said.
The Angami Students’ Union has asked the authorities in concern to “immediately apprehend the perpetrators who are trying to induce anarchy to our state” and take stringent course of action against the perpetrators.
Likewise, the High School Panchayat, ward-1, of Kohima has strongly denounced the bomb blast near Marcofed Gas Agency in Themezie of Kohima “by some miscreants, which falls under its jurisdiction”.
In a statement issued by the Panchayat on Saturday, the ward said the bomb blast has caused fear psychosis among the local residents as well as the children of the area.
The colony has appealed to all sensible citizens to check and condemn such criminal activities in the society to ensure peace.
Also, the City Bus Owners’ Union of Kohima has vehemently denounced the June 26 incident. The organization explained that an improvised explosive device was “purposefully fixed inside a city bus”. The bus belonged to a member of the organization, a person from Gareiphema village, the statement stated.
The City Bus Owners Union of Kohima has asked the authorities in concern to start making efforts to nab the culprit at the earliest and ward them befitting punishment.
In another matter, the union has informed that any bus painted in the ‘city bus color’ but without the ‘2015-2016 sticker’ will not be allowed to be lined in any of the city bus designated parking lots in Kohima town. This is with immediate effect, the union said. The organization has informed that defaulters would be ‘dealt with stern disciplinary action’. The bus owners did not state the reason for the notice.
