Dimapur, Sep. 25 (EMN): Kohima District Pharmacists’ Union (KDPU) and the Pharmacists’ Union Tuensang District (PUTD) have celebrated the World Pharmacist Day on September 25 on the theme ‘Transforming global health.’
The day is observed with an aim to show how pharmacists contribute to a world where everyone benefits from access to safe, effective, quality and affordable medicines and health technologies, as well as from pharmaceutical care services.
In Kohima, the programme began with an invocation said by Thongsheni,
Speaking on the occasion, a retired district pharmacy officer and KDPU advisor Santu Thapa stated that the theme has been rightly selected in the wake of Covid-19 pandemic as the responsibilities of pharmacists have increased manifold.
While thanking the state government for its efforts to contain the Covid-19, he also appreciated the services rendered by the pharmacists in the healthcare team of the state machinery at various levels.
The programme was chaired by KDPU general secretary Zayiechituo John Kipu and the vote of thanks was delivered by its vice president Ato.
In Tuensang, the day was observed at the office of the chief medical officer (CMO), Tuensang.
During the programme, the house discussed the role of pharmacists in the healthcare system and the importance of interactions between pharmacists with doctors and nurses, an update from the union stated.
The house also discussed and agreed that all retail pharmacies should keep a fulltime registered pharmacist and further decided to approach the higher authority to allot pharmacist a sick room in every health centre. It further resolved to organise awareness programme on self-medication in the district and clear confusion between the pharmacist and the pharmacy.
Highlights of the programme included speeches by Dr. Alemwapang, ZLO Tuensang, and Amos, store keeper of District Hospital, Tuensang; while Lanu, pharmacist of Khudei SC, said the invocation and Tsunungrenla Jamir, drug inspector of CMO, Tuesang, chaired the programme.
