Dimapur, Sep. 1 (EMN): Kohima and Peren launched the month-long celebration of Poshan Maah on September 1 in their respective districts. Poshan Abhiyaan (National Nutrition Mission) is a flagship programme strives to reduce the level of stunting, under-nutrition, low birth weight in children and anemia in adolescent girls, pregnant women, lactating mothers as well as children.
The programme in Kohima was organised the chairmanship of the deputy commissioner of Kohima, Shanavas C, in his office’s conference hall.
Speaking at the launch event, Shanavas stated that Poshan Maah is celebrated every year from September 1 to the 30th with various action plans from the concerned departments. He expressed hope that all the departments would take part in the convergence activities for the successful implementation of the programme, stated a DIPR report.
The Kohima district coordintor of Poshan Abhiyaan, Sohile Tep, stated that Poshan Maah was launched on March 8, 2018, with an aim to improve the nutritional outcomes for women and children by leveraging technology, targeted approach and convergence. She informed that the month-long celebration would consist of various activities under different themes for every week in all the five blocks including Tseminyu with an aim to build public participation through various activities and convert nutrition awareness into a mass movement.
During the launch event, the participants took the Poshan pledge and also discussed on the district Poshan Maah action plans prepared by the concerned departments for further necessary action.
In a related programme, the Peren ICDS Project under the department of Social Welfare organised a district-level launch programme of Poshan Maah 2022 at the Women Welfare Hall in Jalukie town on September 1.
During the programme, AWW of Samziuram, Amanna, administered the Poshan pledge, while the CDPO of Nsong, Dishong Chawang highlighted the aims and objectives of Poshan Maah and the importance of mass participation, stated a DIPR report.
The CDPO of Tening, Yanbeni Humtsoe, also spoke on the importance and awareness of nutrition of all age groups especially children below six years, adolescent girls, pregnant and lactating mothers.
The programme was chaired by district Poshan coordinator, Kulule, and the vote of thanks was proposed by district block coordinator, Kekuhungbo.
Report added that the Jalukie ICDS Project also organised a block-level launching programme at CDPO’s office in Jalukie town.
