KOHIMA — Various issues were discussed during a meeting of Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) Ward 1 with leaders of the seven colonies under the ward at the panchayat hall in Kohima on July 31, in the presence of Kelhousenuo Khruomo, the ward councillor.

On the occasion, the councillor was updated on the lists of BPL cardholders, house numbers for all the colonies, and sanitation reports. The induction of compartmental sanitation trucks and the 10% revenue allocation for sanitation to KMC were also highlighted.

The need for a primary health centre (PHC) to serve the seven colonies and neighbouring villages was emphasised, along with the necessity for government middle schools and improved water supply in the localities.

A major grievance highlighted during the discourse was the need to upgrade the ward's panchayat. It was informed that the Smart City initiative covers only seven of Kohima's 19 wards, excluding Ward 1. Given that Ward 1 is the largest within the KMC jurisdiction, the panchayat requires an upgrade.

It was mentioned that the current panchayat building is old and lacks sufficient seating space, necessitating a new facility.

The need for recognition of Kikha-Rüliezou colony by the government, the installation of a zebra crossing at Razhükhrie junction, the expansion of taxi parking, and school inspections in and around the ward were also discussed.

There was a call for increased awareness among shopkeepers to prevent waste disposal into the drainage system, while community leaders also highlighted the need for Anganwadi centres in the ward and the completion of prepaid connections for electricity.

The meeting was also attended by the ward chairman and representatives from women’s and youth bodies from the colonies.
