KMC new members administered oath of affirmation

KOHIMA — The deputy commissioner of Kohima, Kumar Ramnikant, on Friday administered the oath of affirmation to the newly elected members of the Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) held at the Capital Convention Centre in Kohima.

The 19 candidates were Kelhousenuo Khruomo of NDPP from Ward 1, Avilie Rio of NDPP from Ward 2, Ruokuovolie Rutsa of NDPP from Ward 3, Zeneivonuo Nakhro of NDPP from Ward 4, Vimhalie Pienyü of Independent from Ward 5, Thenusou Sekhose of NDPP from Ward 6, Kazheli Tungoe of NDPP from Ward 7, Thejavizo Philip Solo of NDPP from Ward 8, Kekhrieselhou Angami of NDPP from Ward 9, Kevinei-ü Sekhose of Independent from Ward 10, Neibodzelie Solo of NDPP from Ward 11, Ahelie Theyo of Independent from Ward 12, K Asangla Jamir of NDPP from Ward 13, Vizokhoto George Kirha of NPP from Ward 14, Ketousie Khamo of NDPP from Ward 15, Ane-u Khaming of NPP from Ward 16, Khrielievi Chusi of NDPP from Ward 17, Neikhozo Suokhrie of NDPP from Ward 18 and Medoviu Martin Suohu of NPP from Ward 19.

Speaking on the occasion, Ramnikant expressed gratitude to the community leaders and candidates for their support during the election process, attributing the successful conduct of the election to their efforts.

“It is my great pleasure to welcome you all to this significant event. Our newly elected leaders are about to take their oaths, committing themselves to their responsibilities,” he added.

Ramnikant emphasised the importance of the commitments made and expressed confidence that the newly elected members of KMC would take their responsibilities seriously.

He highlighted the potential for development and growth in the district and across the state, stating that the elections would usher in a period of phenomenal growth in urban centres.

T Lanusenla Longkumer, administrator and returning officer of the Kohima Municipal Council (KMC), congratulated the newly elected council members on their success and wished them the best for their tenure.

Longkumer acknowledged the efforts of everyone involved in the election process, including the district administration, police, officials, candidates, their supporters, and civil society organisations.

She also highlighted the peaceful nature of the election in the state capital, noting that it was conducted without major incidents.

“This is something we should all be proud of,” she said, attributing the success to the collective efforts of all involved.

Meanwhile, Salhoutuonuo Kruse, minister of Women Resource Development and Horticulture, commended the elected councilors for their commitment to serve the electorate of their respective wards.

“As councilors of KMC, you shoulder a great responsibility,” Kruse emphasised, while reminding them that they represent the people and entrusted with fostering the best interests of the community.

She described the role of councilors as intermediaries between the community and the council and urged them to uphold ethical principles and work with a visionary approach for the holistic development of their wards.

“Today, as you take the oath of affirmation, I assure you of the government’s full support in developing people and the municipality,” Kruse assured.
