KOHIMA — The president of NDPP Kohima region, Prasielie Pienyü, has called upon the new team of Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) led by the party members to maintain team spirit and cooperation in order to transform the face of Kohima.

Pienyü stated this during a thanksgiving programme of Thenusou Sekhose Yhome, the elected councilor from Ward 6 (D Block). Thenusou is the only woman candidate, who won from an unreserved ward in Kohima during the ULB election.

He relayed the message of Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio, who recently assured support for the councilors of KMC to uplift the wards and the state capital. Also reminding that Rio has proposed establishing a directorate for urban local bodies (ULB), he encouraged the councilors to remain strong, as both the party and the government would extend their cooperation in every possible way.

Salhoutuonuo Kruse, minister of Horticulture and Women Resource Development, acknowledged the residents of D Block colony, particularly the men, who supported gender equality during the election. According to her, their support enabled Thenusou, the only woman candidate from Kohima, to win the election from an unreserved ward.

Asserting that people are becoming more broad-minded, she said that even with reserved seats for women in ULB elections, people would choose only the most capable leaders who can serve the community.

Mentioning that KMC councilors would be assigned different roles in a few days, she reminded them of their responsibilities toward the wards and the city of Kohima.

Kruse expressed hope that with her extensive experience in municipal services, Thenusou's role in KMC would significantly benefit their ward and the state capital.

Meanwhile, Thenusou attributed her win as a victory for all, symbolising progressive advancement. She appealed to her ward members to continue their support in the coming days to advance their ward and city.

While thanking all ranks and files of NDPP, she sought guidance from her supporters whenever she faces challenges in her new role as the elected representative from Ward 6.

"Let's all strive to take our ward and Kohima city to greater heights," she said.

Ruokuoselhou James Yhome, speaking on behalf of the family of Thenusou, emphasised the importance of contesting in elections rather than winning uncontested.

He thanked her opponent candidate, Kekhrieletuo Belho, and his wife, who were also present on the occasion.

Kevi Vizo, chairman of the ward, called upon all ward members, regardless of political affiliation, to come together, collaborate and support their elected councilor to advance their ward.
