Dimapur, Nov. 2 (EMN): Under ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ programme, Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) presented a citation and cash incentive to the Green Team Kohima on November 1 in recognition of their outstanding contributions and commitment towards the banning of single-use plastic items within KMC jurisdiction.
The certificate and cash were handed over to the Green Team members by the KMC administrator Kovi Meyase in his office chamber, a KMC press release stated on Saturday. Meyase lauded the efforts and initiative of the Green Team Kohima towards various environmental issues and thanked the members for their commitment and contributions.
Green Team Kohima is a part of the Kohima district task force on the implementation of plastic ban headed by the deputy commissioner, Kohima.
It may be mentioned that Green Team Kohima has been actively advocating environment issues and undertaken cleanliness drives, tree plantation, town beautification etc on its own as well as in collaboration with other organisations.
Also as part of the nationwide campaign on cleanliness ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ (Cleanliness is service), KMC would be organising an essay writing competition on November 16 in the conference hall of the deputy commissioner, Kohima, at 10 am.
KMC administrator Kovi Meyase informed all the higher secondary schools both government and private to send two students to participate in the competition. The essay writing competition would be conducted on the topic ‘Plastic-free India.’
It added that the best three winners would receive cash award of INR l 0,000, INR 7000, and INR 5000 respectively.
The last date of submission of names has been set on November 11. Confirmation on participation and list of names should be submitted in writing to the office of KMC or be conveyed to the nodal officer. Results of the competition would be notified in the newspapers, it added.
