DIMAPUR — T Lanusenla Longkumer, the administrator of the Kohima Municipal Council (KMC), has issued a directive to all ward chairmen within the Kohima municipality regarding compliance with an order from the court of Chief Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities  (CCPD) (Divyangjan), Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MosJE).

According to a DIPR report, in its May 22, 2023 order, the court recommended that the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs adhere to the provisions outlined in sections 3, 5, 40, 42, and 46 of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016 and Rule 15 of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Rules 2017.

These provisions stipulate the necessity of ensuring the sharing of all public notices and other public information on display screens within residential buildings and complexes.

In light of the court order, the administrator of KMC has directed all ward authorities to take immediate action and implement measures to comply with the court's instructions. This includes the installation of devices that can display various community-related notices, circulars, and other information or media content relevant to residents.

Also, these devices should provide audio facilities to enable individuals with visual impairments to access the displayed information. Longkumer has emphasised that this compliance is a priority and should cover all categories of persons with disabilities.
