Our Correspondent Kohima, Nov. 9 (EMN): A cooperative group called the Star Multi-purpose Co-operative Society observed its 75th anniversary on Saturday at Northfield Kikha in Kohima. Dr. Neikesalie Kire, the advisor for Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, was the event’s special guest. Speaking at the occasion, Kire expressed happiness that the Society was celebrating its 75th anniversary. He urged the society to convene meetings at least twice or thrice in a year so that the members would get to know more about one another. Kire, who also happens to be one of the sons of Dr. Neilhouzhu Kire, a founding father of the society, called upon the gathering to get familiar with one another by holding meetings one in a while so that the feeling of belongingness would exist among them. The co-operative society is one of the “oldest and eldest societies” in Nagaland, he said. Therefore, it should lead by example. He urged its members to contribute to the welfare of the society and to grow even more. To the younger members of the group, Kire urged them to carry the legacy of their parents and grandparents who have contributed to the society. It is said that the society was formed in the year 1944 “as a result of the vision and foresight of our elders who took it upon themselves to establish it for a good and common cause.” Star Multi-purpose Co-operative Society registered with the government of Nagaland in the year 1968, it was informed. Members, children and grandchildren of the founding members of the organisation attended the celebration.
