KOHIMA — Former minister and NDPP leader, Dr. Neikiesalie Kire, has encouraged the party candidates, who could not succeed in the recent urban local bodies (ULB) elections, not to lose heart but believe in themselves saying that better days would come again.

He stated this during a thanksgiving programme organised by Tosovi Tase, NDPP candidate from Ward 14 (Poterlane/ Old Ministers’ Hill) on July 3 evening at Kisama. Despite losing the election, Tase organised the event to honour and thank his supporters.

Kire attended the event to express solidarity with the unsuccessful candidates.

The former minister shared that he himself had lost in the last state assembly general election but accepted the loss. He reminded those who did not win to look unto God for his guidance and expressed hope that better days would come again.

Out of the total 19 candidates, 13 from NDPP won the election to the Kohima Municipal Council (KMC). Among them, 8 contested and won, while 5 were declared elected unopposed.

Kire consoled the unsuccessful candidates by encouraging them not to lose heart since the ruling NDPP had an impressive overall performance.

Conveying the message of Nagaland Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio, Kire urged Tase to continue his community service, assuring him that they would support his ward to bring at par with the rest.

Emphasising the party’s motto “Deeds not words,” he said, “Let’s be truthful with Christian principles, come together and do whatever small things we can for the community.”

Meanwhile, Tase acknowledged his supporters for all their sacrifices during the election, which strengthened him to contest. Accepting his loss with humility, he congratulated the winning candidate of the ward.

He said that his supporters had given 100%, and that they had made no mistakes. Instead, he attributed his loss to his own shortcomings and requested his supporters not to engage in blame games.

Tase also called upon his supporters not to be disheartened as their party (NDPP) is in power and that they are all together. He further pledged to continue serving his community and stated that his doors will always be opened for everyone to approach him anytime.
