Dimapur, August 13 (EMN): The Citizens’ Welfare Society (CWS), Kiphire, observed its first foundation day cum thanksgiving prayer programme on August 12 at Hopongkyu Memorial Hall, Kiphire.
The programme began with an invocation pronounced by Setsiba, Associate Pastor of KTBL (South), while the keynote addressed was delivered by Tsili Mongzar, president CWS.
The president, in his speech, said that CWS is a non profitable organisation formed with an objective to work for the welfare of citizens. He said the society aims to check corruption and to fight social injustice in the interest of the citizens.
While pointing out that it is easy to cleanse the society from corruption, he was optimistic that the same can be eradicated with the co-operation and assistance from the people.
Referring to CWS motto “Equality for all,” Ben Longkumer, Superintendent of Police, DEF Kiphire, said that the principal of equality and non-discrimination are part of the foundation of the rule of law. Appreciating CWS for taking up the bold decision, he was confident that the Society has the power to bring about changes in the Naga society.
“Your power lies in your conviction, your passion and your determination to create lasting change and make the world a safer, healthier, better place for all,” he said. He stated that people who make a difference are not the people who talk about change or what might be done to make things better. According to him, the people who step up, take action, build consensus, lead the change, and own the outcome are the people who make a difference.
Sepithong, Head GB of Kiphire town, has lauded the initiative of CWS to bring about changes and encouraged CWS to move forward. He also assured cooperation and support from the GBs of Kihire town in the larger interest of the citizens.
Tsidongse, USLP general secretary, has termed CWS’s initiative as an eye opener for the people of the district as he said rights of its citizens have been manipulated many a time for too long of their ignorance. He requested the public to extend support to CWS and also exhorted the CWS to be aware of corruption within the group because Naga Society today is already corrupted. Alison, associate pastor of KTBL, said the thanksgiving prayer, while Hotingkyu, CWS general secretary, presented the annual report.
V Akok a& friend mesmerised the gathering with a country ballet and a solo performance by Ms Lilongla Sangtam. The programme was chaired by Louis Lithrise, CWS spokesperson, and the vote of thanks was delivered by Lipimong, CWS vice president. The programme concluded with a benediction pronounced by Thejovi, pastor of Tenemya Baptist Church, Kiphire.
It may be mentioned that CWS was formed in the early part of 2016 which was officially launched on August 12, 2016, by the Deputy Commissioner, Kiphire, Sedevikho Khro.
