To commemorate ‘World Oral Health Day 2023,’ Community Health Centre, Pungro, led by Dr. Weri Mero, dental surgeon, conducted an oral health awareness camp at Christian School in Pungro under in Kiphire district on March 13.
An update from the office of the chief medical officer (CMO), Kiphire, stated many patients were provided dental check-ups besides tooth extraction and temporary fillings, fluoride application to prevent cavities among other services.
It may be noted that the World Oral Health Day 2023 was celebrated on the theme “Be proud of your mouth.”
It mentioned that the oral health camp was conducted to educate students and public about the importance of good oral health and dental hygiene keeping in mind that an unhealthy mouth, especially gum disease could increase risk of serious health problems.
It added that Mero has briefed about the importance of oral hygiene for maintaining overall health benefits. He has also stressed on the ill effects of consuming tobacco products, especially smoking and chewing gutkha.
Report further stated that the medical team had demonstrated on proper brushing techniques to the participants. The team has also distributed toothbrushes and toothpaste to the students including leaflets explaining about oral health.
