Dimapur, Sep. 19 (EMN):
Kiphire’s district health establishment has inaugurated events commemorating the 1st anniversary of the Ayushman Bharat (PMJAY) and the integrated community sensitisation campaign in the district.

The Ayushman Bharat Yojana or Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana or National Health Protection Scheme is a central scheme that aims at making interventions in primary, secondary and tertiary care systems.

A press release from the district’s chief medical officer’s establishment on Thursday informed about the launch of the ‘Ayushman Bharat Pakhwara’ on September 19 with Principal Director Dr. Vikeyie Losu of the Health and Family Welfare department, and Deputy Commissioner Sarita Yadav attending the event.

A health officer, Dr. Kikameren Longkumer, said in his address that the government of India has decided to observe “Ayushman Bharat Pakhwara” from September 15 to the 30th with the objective to increasing awareness about Ayushman Bharat and to reach out to beneficiaries with information about availing the services.

He said that the one-year journey of the PMJAY was a challenging, exciting and rewarding experience. “Due to poor connectivity of economic census data and non availability of ration cards coupled with poor internet connectivity, we could enrol only about 32% of the 2.33 lakhs targeted households as on date,” the press release stated.

“However, the scheme could prevent 3255 beneficiaries from the potential risks of impoverishment worth INR 4.70 crore by providing free medical treatments. Underprivileged people are now accessible to quality healthcare not only within the state but can also avail medical treatment anywhere in the country from any empanelled hospital as the fear of out of-pocket expenditure is no more through this schemes.”

Also addressing the event, Principal Director Dr. Vikeyie Losu said that the PMJAY was launched in Nagaland on September 23 2018.

‘A total of about 2.33 lakh poor and vulnerable families in the state are eligible for the scheme. Till date, we have empanelled 63 hospitals comprising of 59 public and four private hospitals this includes four PHC of Kiphire districts,’ he was quoted as having stated at the programme.

‘As of September 18, 2019, we have given 3255 free treatment under PMJAY worth INR 4.7 crore through the empanelled hospitals in Nagaland as well as outside the state.’

Deputy Commissioner Sarita Yadav also addressed the programme. She urged the public availing the scheme to promote it to the people ‘so that it will benefit all sections of the society in the districts,’ the press release stated.

The administrator assured the Health department that the district’s administration will give full support and cooperation ‘in fulfilling and promoting the health sector in the district,’ the updates stated.
